Due to the number of divots in the fairway which will not grow back due to the chemical treatments performed in preparation for course renovation, we will be imposing a Local Rule to be used until December 31, 2021 during LASJGC play. It has been suggested we use the wording found in the USGA Local Rule 3 for "preferred lies"as follows:
When the player's ball lies in a divot or bare spot in the fairway, the player may take relief by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area.
*Reference Point: Spot of the original ball
*Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: One club-length
*Limits on Location of Relief Area: Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point and must be in the general area.
In preceding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e
We can begin using this Local Rule effective November 9, 2021.
In preparation for renovations, the course was sprayed with 3 different chemicals on Oct 25-26 and Nov 8-9. The next treatment is not scheduled until after the course is closed on December 31. There will be no interruption to our Tues and Thurs play days until the end of the year. The spraying has resulted in a similar look to a really cold winter when the turf naturally goes off color and is dormant. Playing conditions will be similar to dormant turf, and with it being dry, you can expect faster ball rolls through the fairways and rough.
